I photograph a community called the Deer Park Archers, based in Gloucestershire. It’s a large, active archery club with strong facilities and a busy calendar of tournaments and events. The club also runs a range of activities and supports a diverse group of archers.
I first became involved through my uncle, who is a coach and general helper at the club. He assists with everything from building and maintenance work to coaching, including supporting disabled archers.
I was drawn to the club because I wanted to document this kind of community through photography. I’ve previously done archery, although I didn’t continue with it long-term, and I may return to it in the future.
I studied documentary photography at university, where I focused on photographing communities. This project with Deer Park Archers is my first major documentary work since graduating, and it continues that same interest in community-based storytelling.
